Sam Knight (any/all) is a programmer, multimedia digital artist, and queer feminist advocate studying Computer Science at Ithaca College. Their exacting aesthetic sensibilities guide their journey to make precise, impactful, and expansive work everywhere they go.

A person with shoulder-length brown hair and glasses is looking down at the ground facing the camera. They are wearing a green beanie, a dark blueberry colored shirt, light blue jeans and vans. They have a small keyring clipped into a belt loop, their right hand is in their pocket and their left hand is holding an umbrella with multicolored strawberries printed on it. The image is framed by a forest with a pine tree on the right side (the person's left) and other deciduous trees on the left.

About This Site

Why "robog"?

When I was younger I did a lot of block-coding in Hopscotch and Scratch. I really wanted to start a game company, so with the help of an intro to HTML book I launched "Robo Gaming By Sam," which you can find on the internet for the first time in about ten years. This name ended up becoming my email (which I have since lost access to), which ended up being shortened into my *NIX username, and it's stuck for quite some time. Hence, robog.net.

Design

I have a really hard time in my own life bridging my more formal and academic personality with my interests in art and design. I wanted to create something that reads playfully, but not to the point of being childish.

I went through a few iterations:

After lots of iteration I finally came up with this idea, which is sort of inspired by the old "Simon" toy which has the four corners that light up which you tap in order. I combined that concept and the playful/toy–like nature with an old business card design I had created, which I think meshes the two design goals of this website quite well and I've kept it since. This is the website design that I've stuck with for the longest time and hopefully it will last for years to come.

Generative AI

The original prototype of this website was created with the assistance of Claude Code, an agentic LLM-based programming tool. Generative AI was not used to create the original design, color scheme, fonts, or content, such as blog posts and interactive art pieces available on this website. The layout code contains some of this original LLM-generated material but much of it has been replaced and updated over time. Check out the website's source code for details, or read my stance on using Generative AI in my work. If you have thoughts about Generative AI usage that you would like to share with me, please reach out using one of the contact methods above.
